Performing Arts Camp Registration Form

Performing Arts Camp is an arts-based early arrival program that brings together students passionate about music, theater, dance, and performance. Participants will have the opportunity to work with one of WNE’s performing arts groups, including Golden Voices (choir), Golden Bear Bands, Drumline, Stageless Players (theater), Improv on the Rocks, and Dance Team. There is no cost to participate in Performing Arts Camp.

During the program, both new and returning students will come to campus early for rehearsals, workshops, and performances. When signing up, you’ll select the group you want to rehearse and perform with. In addition to rehearsals, you’ll also participate in workshops led by different clubs, giving you a chance to explore other areas of the performing arts. Each evening, fun social events will help you connect with students from all groups, making this a fantastic way to meet people before the semester starts.

The camp will conclude with a final showcase performance, where each group will present what they’ve worked on. This event is open to the entire WNE community, and families are welcome to attend.

If you sign up, you’ll be invited to move to campus early on August 17, 2025, with camp activities running from August 18-20. First year orientation activities will run from August 21-24, including the Performing Arts Camp Showcase on August 24. More details will be provided to registered participants.

Clapping & Rhythm Games: Test your rhythm skills in a series of fast-paced clapping and counting games! Whether you're in the center leading the beat or racing to stay in the game, these activities will challenge your timing, focus, and ability to play by ear. Variations include instrument-based games and competitive rhythm challenges.

Healthy Belting: This session will focus on singing with power while avoiding vocal strain, using proper breath support and resonance. Participants will learn abdominal and diaphragm exercises to develop a strong, sustainable belt.

Sticking & Basic Rudiments: New to drumming or need a refresher? This workshop covers essential rudiments, common stickings, and how they appear in drumline music. Build your foundation and improve your technique!

Intro to Tech: Get an inside look at the behind-the-scenes magic of theater! This workshop introduces the different technical roles in productions and how you can get involved in lighting, sound, and set design.

Workshops are a great opportunity to branch out and explore different performing arts groups beyond the one you selected for rehearsals and the final performance! Each student will participate in three workshop sessions, with multiple options available during each time slot.

When selecting your workshops, choose all sessions you’re interested in for each time slot—you’ll be placed in one based on demand. This ensures everyone gets a chance to try something new while keeping sessions engaging and interactive.

Intro to Improv: Jump into the world of improv comedy! This beginner-friendly session introduces fundamental techniques, warmups, and games to get you thinking fast and having fun. No experience needed!

Strength & Conditioning: Improve core stability, control, flexibility, and overall strength to execute complex dance moves with precision. This workshop focuses on building a strong foundation for all styles of dance.

Passing Notes & Round and Round: Develop your ear and teamwork! In "Passing Notes," students will listen and replicate notes played by their peers until the group matches perfectly. "Round and Round" explores rounds and chorales, gradually layering sections for a full ensemble experience. If time allows, you’ll also practice phrasing and dynamics through fun, collaborative exercises.

Vocal Techniques: Strengthen your voice with essential techniques for breath support, resonance, posture, and safe vocal projection. Learn warm-ups and exercises to improve vocal endurance and prevent strain.

Stick Control & Warmups: Enhance your endurance, coordination, and control with essential warmups used in drumline rehearsals. Show off your skills, learn new stick tricks, and refine your technique with fellow drummers.

Booth Workshop: Step into the tech booth and learn how lighting and sound are run for live performances. A hands-on opportunity to explore the equipment and gain a deeper understanding of theater tech.

Status Workshop: This workshop explores how status (a character’s level of dominance in a scene) influences interactions and teaches techniques for playing high- and low-status roles effectively. Engage in fun games that help you experiment with power dynamics and make your scenes more dynamic!

Technique & Across the Floor: Develop fundamental dance techniques and spatial awareness while moving across the floor. This session incorporates skills used in performance routines and ensures proper execution through classical training methods.

Jam Session: A relaxed rehearsal session where band members can connect and practice in a low-pressure setting. Perfect for refining tricky passages, playing for fun, and getting to know your fellow musicians!

Sight Singing: Strengthen your musicianship by learning to read and perform music on sight. This session will cover rhythmic reading, pitch recognition, solfège, interval training, and strategies for approaching new music with confidence.

Decorate Your Own Sticks: Get creative and personalize your own pair of drumsticks! This laid-back session is a great way to meet other drummers while adding some flair to your gear. Supplies provided!

Audition Workshop: Prepare for your next audition with confidence! Participate in a mock audition using real sides, receive feedback, and learn tips for delivering a standout performance.

Guessing Games: Master the art of giving and interpreting hints in improv guessing games. This session focuses on quick thinking, creativity, and teamwork in a fun, interactive format.

Combination: Learn and perform a short, high-energy combination created by the Dance Team choreographers. This session is all about having fun while putting your skills into action!
